Tip:
Ways to cut costs are always being talked about in budgeting for
a wedding. The big thing to remember is "Don't be afraid
to ask for things". All they can say is "no".
Things to think about in your decisions are weighing one
way against another. Which is best for you?
Predictably, Saturday evening weddings are most popular, therefore
the more expensive. When booking your venue, ask how much
less it may be if you select a Friday night or Sunday.
If you are marrying at a church or sanctuary, will it have an
organist, musician, vocalist or choir? Can you make a donation
for their services? This will save you from hiring outside musicians
for the ceremony.
Shop around for your vendors. Even if you fall in love
with the first florist or band you meet, still visit others. Vendors
will sometimes match lower prices if they do not get booked early--A
lower paying job is better than no job. This works especially
in off-peak seasons.
If you're not comfortable in negotiating prices, instead ask
what they will throw in at no additional cost. Some hotels
will give you a suite to stay in on your wedding night. Also,
a lower price for rooms for guests to stay there. Bands
may include an extra musician.
Tray-passed hors d'oeuvres are nice, but the extra service will
cost you. Inquire about appetizer stations or a buffet style.
Ask to see a full list of the brands of liquor to be served.
For mixed cocktails, top-shelf liquor often doesn't matter.
Your guests may never notice.
Find out about bringing in your own liquor and wine. Buy
it from a wholesaler or wherehouse club. There is usually a corking
fee, but it may still be less expensive.
What is the "Trendy" cocktail at the moment? Don't
be afraid to find out what the difference in price would be if
your bar served only one stylish drink. You know, like a Martini
Bar. Kind of fun, too.
Whatever you decide, I know it will best for you and your budget.
Remember, stay organized and have fun!
