Tip: Roles of the Bridal Party

It is very important to select the correct people to be in your wedding party. It is always an honor to be a member of the Wedding Party, but they are also there to help you both before and during the big event. Their involvement from the shower through the reception can help make your wedding stress-free, smooth-running and alot of fun for all of you. Each month we will lay out for your attendants their duties, etc.

The Maid (single) or Matron (married) of Honor:

  • Helps bride select attire
  • Helps bride address invitations
  • Plans bridal shower for bride or a joint party for the couple (this can be done with the help of the best man)
  • At the shower, she can help open and/or record gifts and keep track of them for Thank You Notes.
  • Arrives at the dressing site 2 hours before ceremony to assist bride in dressing
  • Arrives dressed at ceremony site 1 hour before the wedding for photographs
  • Arranges the bride's veil and train before the processional and the recessional
  • Follows bridesmaids and precedes ring bearer or flower girl in the processional
  • Stands to the left of Bride and slightly behind her during the ceremony, facing the officiant (the opposite occurs in a Jewish Ceremony)
  • Holds brides bouquet and groom's ring, if no ring bearer during the ceremony.
  • Is escorted out by Best Man to his right immediately following the Flower Girl/Ring Bearer or Bride/Groom during the recessional.
  • Is a legal witness and witnesses the signing of the marriage certificate
  • Stands to the left of groom in the receiving line
  • Sits to the left of the groom at the head table
  • Keeps the bride on schedule
  • Makes a toast at the reception
  • Dances with the Best Man during the bridal party dance
  • Helps bride change into her going away clothes, if necessary
  • She pays for her wedding day attire
  • She is also available for fittings and alterations and makes sure the bridesmaids are, too.
  • She also pays for her own travel expenses, if necessary

Any way you look at it, she is a very important part of the Wedding Party, so plan ant think it through before selecting this person.

I know you will make the correct choice in whomever you select.

As always, have fun, and Stay Organized!

Fondly,
Marlene
