Tip: The music you select can set the entire mood of the
party. You must decide what type of musicians you prefer.
A
DJ may be able to provide a wider variety of musicplayed
continuouslyno breaks.
You may want different musicians for the Ceremony than you would
use at the reception. For example, you may choose to have a trio
at the ceremony and a DJ or band at the Reception.
For the ceremony, most sanctuaries will provide you with a staff
organist or pianist.
When interviewing, ask for a demo tape on video or a cassette
to help narrow down your selection. Try to see them performing
at another event. Ask for and call referrals.
Keep
in mind that the more popular bands and DJs book up in advance,
especially on those Saturdays during wedding season.
Try and remember someone you have liked at another event. Check
with a talent agency or production agency if all else failsbut
remember, this approach will be more expensive.
If you interview a company that has multiple systems and DJs,
make sure that the DJ you request is the one that shows up at
the reception.
And last, but not least, remember that a DJ is less expensive
than a band, so if you are trying to stretch that dollar, a DJ
will provide you with a very large selection of music at the best
dollar value.
Continue to have fun, and of course... Stay Organized.
