Sixth in a Series
The Bridal Party A to Z

Tip: Continuing our series... The role of the Father of the Bride

  • Helps prepare guest list for the bride and her family--(Did you see Father of the Bride with Steve Martin?--rent this--it is too funny with some of the best scenes with the guest list)
  • Helps plan the wedding ceremony and reception
  • Is available for all pre-wedding parties
  • Selects attire that complements groom's attire
  • Rides to the ceremony with bride in limousine
  • Arrives dressed at ceremony site 1 hour before the wedding for photographs
  • Escorts bride down the aisle, to her left, during processional. (In Catholic ceremonies, Father of the Bride may be to the bride's right)
  • After giving bride away, sits in th left front pew to the right of bride's mother. If divorced, sits in second or third row unless financing the wedding
  • When officiant asks, "Who gives this bride away?" answers, "Her mother and I do" or something similiar
  • Escorts bride's mother, to her left, immediately following last bridesmaid and usher during the recessional
  • Can witness the signing of the marriage certificate
  • Stands to the left of bride's mother in the receiving line (if there is one)
  • Sits to the left of bride's mother at parents' table during reception
  • Dances with bride after the first dance (Father-Daughter Dance)
  • Acts as host at the reception
  • Goes around to greet each guest if there is no receiving line
  • Pays his own transportation to wedding if necessary

The Father of the Bride is usually the one paying for most of the wedding, so make sure to let him be in on all the details so he does not feel left out. Remember you are his daughter, also.

As always, have fun and Stay Organized!

Fondly,
Marlene
