Since you may not always be the one to greet your guests upon arrival, many brides and grooms prepare small welcome baskets for their out-of-town guests as a gesture of appreciation. By no means mandatory, these baskets can be as simple or elaborate as you like.

If you decide to give gift baskets, ask the hotel if its personnel could deliver the baskets to their room or even hand them to the guest as they check in. There may be a small fee to do this, but well worth it.

Things to include in these baskets could be:

• snacks
• goodies with local flair
• bottled water
• aspirin, toothbrush, deodorant, alka seltzer, mouthwash, soap, cologne,
• dental floss (not all the above--just some or a few items)
• pocket-size Kleenex packets
• area maps
• tourist attraction magazines
• local restaurant information
• local souvenir items
• a local scratch-and-win lottery ticket, and, of course,
• the wedding itinerary with local phone numbers

Also include a note in the basket from you and your spouse, thanking guests for attending.

They will really appreciate all your attention to detail and these are really fun to do. It really is like greeting them by just thinking who would like what item in each bag.
